REJUICED:
ALBUM ROLLOUT

CLIENT - MASSING

Final Version of Cover Art

Photos by Hunter way

Massing’s EP “Rejuiced” was the band’s first real attempt at releasing tracks that were recorded live in studio with their full band, rather than the two core songwriters behind a computer screen. To visually reflect that, I aimed to illustrate a melding of organic swirls and blobs that reinforced the subtle improvisation, imperfection, as well as the push and pull of the live band experience - a sort of togetherness, but less of a perfect mixture and more like oil and water.

Using these organic shapes to mask off photos of the band gave the cover art a more intimate quality that brought the whole package even closer to home by becoming a collaboration with long-time friend and photographer, Hunter Way.

PRELIMINARY OPTIONS

SINGLE COVER ART

For the rollout of singles leading up to the release of the full EP, I utilized the illustration in a way that would eventually form it into a recurring motif in the rollout’s branding. These single covers would foreshadow and coexist with the full EP’s cover art, while still standing alone with their own identity. Singles 4, 5, and 6 were released as bonus tracks following the full EP’s release, so the same format was kept, but the composition was flipped to mirror the other singles.

SPOTIFY CANVASES

Isolated Hand Drawn Animation

I animated this frame by frame in line with the illustrative quality of the cover art to give the Spotify canvases and promotional reels a dynamic punch. Unique 9:16 videos (above) were created for each song on the EP utilizing a recolored version of this animation, loosely referencing the experience of a psychedelic liquid light show.
